WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

     Pre-Op excitement!
The nurse had a good laugh when she asked how I got here and if my ride was waiting in the lobby for me and I said, "no, I walked"
THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR PRAYERS...they must have worked because surgery went great!  I feel so blessed to be working at Loma Linda & times like this even makes me more grateful.  What other hospital would your co-workers & physicians come to pray with you in pre-op?  It was really comforting especially since Andy couldn't be there.  By the way he's been amazing despite having 5 tests this week; running home between class to cook, stay on top of the dishes (keep in mind we have no dishwasher), learning to do ponytails, tie my shoes & keeping me laughing about all this : )

Now the big question??? Would you run a full marathon 4 days after wrist surgery?  I still have 2 legs & 1 perfect arm!  The surgeon didn't oppose, however I am still at risk of non-union and avascular necrosis & I only get 1 left wrist!  I was 100% sure I would do it before surgery but now I'm 50/50.  I'm not an elite runner obviously, I simply do it because I like pushing myself beyond what I think I can handle & I love the mental side of marathons.  Plus I'm on some good drugs so I may not even feel leg pain either! haha  I just don't want something bad to happen in the future because I didn't allow myself to recover properly...been there done that!

So....tell me what would you do?

Post-Op anesthesia not quite worn off...very attractive!  honestly I thought I was smiling! : )

Oh my gosh, hahaha. That picture cracks me up. I just got home and everyone is dead asleep in my house and I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I saw your picture and realized you were trying to smile. I am so glad I have this as a mental image to remember you always. Come to AZ. Just do it!

PS- I am not laughing at your injury, I promise. I am glad everything went well with the surgery.

Personally, I don't think I would run it. Just the thought of trying to run 26.2 miles with a cast does not sound fun. It's tricky though because you trained for it and we all know that training sucks! Think of it this way, you now have a very good excuse to not run it and no one will judge you if you don't. :) I always secretly wished that something would happen to me and the van at the marathon could pick me up and drive me to the finish line. Good luck with the decision!

okay, i'm honestly cracking up right now at that last picture, you totally started my day off on a high note. Too funny! i'm glad surgery went well, i was thinking about you a lot yesterday. my opinion? i would get a doctor's note and see if I could get a refund on the marathon. I know it sucks b/c you've done all the work to train for it, but ricking an injury even worse isn't worth it. just my 2 cents. if you decide to do it i will be cheering for you (from my couch, haha). glad you're okay, call me if you need anything. want to do lunch thursday?

Well...you probably already know my answer...it would not be a good idea to run that soon after surgery especially in a cast. Your arm is going to be below your heart for several hours, on top of extreme physical stress to the body. The swelling under the cast alone is too great of a risk. But that is just my opinion. There will be other marathons. I am glad that the surgery went well and that you are doing great. Wish I was there to help Andy cook and clean. Miss you!

Love your Smile:)
I'm glad all went well with your surgery.
If it were me i would NOT run! I guess I just don't think it would be worth it. The only thing I have broken was my clavicle (and it was a clean bad brake) It was the most painful thing ever (Except for labor:) I would think that all the bouncing and jarring would irritate it more.

Good luck w/ the decision making.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go to AZ with you! Your crazy skate boarding antics are working out great for me :) haha j/k
Did you seriously walk home after that surgery? I'm glad it went well. I was praying for you and your not so easy to heal scaphoid.

holy crap, jen!! i have to admit that i am laughing right now, like breck, not at the pain. you do look like you are in a ton of pain though. please feel better and don't run the race.

Jen there are hundreds of marathons, and like you said you only have one left wrist! Do another marathon later!

Don't do it. It will suck. You won't think about anything else except your sweaty, itchy, unbalanced arm. Think about how much you use BOTH arms to run. It is going to throw you off balance and cause you to stiffen up your shoulders. I just think you will be completely miserable.

Dang girl you are amazing, you just had surgery and you are honestly considering running a marathon!! Wow there is no way I could do that( I don't think I could do it even if I didn't just go through surgery!:)
Glad everything went well!

Jen, oh my gosh your last pic is priceless. I am so sorry about your wrist. I am glad surgery went well. Well, I guess I am too late to give you my opinion on running the marathon. I guess I just have to find out what you decided. Love ya and miss ya.
